Fort Lauderdale
Sunrise Ledge
Sunrise Ledge is a shallow reef-dominated site off the Florida coast, featuring a gently sloping ledge that drops to around 12 meters in places. The topography includes small overhangs and a series of coral heads, making it a pleasant destination for beginners and for practice dives. Expect calm conditions in most weather windows with good visibility typical of nearshore Florida reefs. The site hosts a range of Western Atlantic reef species, including wrasse, parrotfish, snappers, trumpetfish, moray eels, and spur-and-groove coral formations. Currents are usually mild and can increase with tides, so plan accordingly. Access is straightforward from nearby coastal towns such as Hollywood, Dania Beach, and Fort Lauderdale, all within a short drive and usually under a quarter of an hour based on traffic. This makes Sunrise Ledge a practical choice for a couple of guided dives or a quick beach-to-water half-day outing.
