Sea Lord Reef

Sea Lord Reef is a coastal reef site near Santa Cruz, Machico, and Caniço on Santa Maria Beach’s offshore fringe. The reef typically features shallow to moderate depths with a gentle sloping profile, making it accessible for recreational divers. Expect clear Atlantic water, normal visibility, and a calm to moderate drift in certain conditions. Common ambient life includes schooling reef fish, wrasses, damselfish, moray eels, and seasonal octopus or small sharks closer to structure. The site offers a straightforward entry from the shore or a small boat, with opportunities to explore coral formations, swim-throughs, and sheltered crevices along the reef topography. It is suitable for beginner to intermediate divers, weather permitting.
