Praia Do Garajau

Praia do Garajau is a coastal dive site near Funchal on Madeira Island. The site is typically accessed from the rocky shore and features a gentle exit and entry with mixed visibility depending on conditions. Divers commonly explore a sloping seabed with sparse current, making it suitable for occasional drift dives and macro sees. Marine life in this subtropical Atlantic area often includes small fish, wrasse, 💠 moray eels, and occasional octopus, with rocky substrates and some continuity of marine life along the slope. Conditions are generally calm in good weather, but local differences can occur with swell from the Atlantic. For access, the nearest towns are Caniço (a few kilometers away) and Funchal, with Santa Cruz also within a reasonable drive, offering divers options for logistics and post-dive facilities. This site is best suited for certification dives and those building comfort in Atlantic conditions, rather than a high-traffic dive destination.
