Powoni

Powoni is a coastal dive site near Jambiani on Zanzibar’s southeast coast. The area features typical tropical Indian Ocean conditions with shallow reef flats transitioning to gentle drop-offs. Access is straightforward from nearby beach launches, and currents are usually mild, suitable for recreational divers with basic training. The site commonly hosts healthy coral communities, with a mix of reef fishes such as parrotfish, angelfish, damselfish, bannerfish,, and grunts, along with occasional rays and turtles. While not a famed mainland blockbuster, Powoni offers a relaxed, accessible dive experience with clear water and pleasant visibilities most days.
