Octopus Reef is a shallow, coastal site off California’s Monterey Bay area. Accessible from Pacific Grove and Monterey within minutes, it features a typical rocky reef topography with sandy patches in between. Expect mild currents and clear to moderate visibility, especially on calmer days. The area is known for diverse kelp forests, schooling fish, and common reef species such as rockfish, crabs, and moray eels. Entry is usually from a beach or small jetty, with a relaxed profile suitable for beginner and intermediate divers. Given its proximity to popular dive hubs, plan for limited surface intervals and watch for surge near the reef shelves.
