Kahaluu Keauhou
Mile Marker 4
Mile Marker 4 is a coastal dive site near the Kona coast, typically accessed from the shoreline or a nearby boat ramp. The site lies in relatively shallow waters with a gentle slope, making it suitable for intermediate- to advanced-level dives depending on current and tide. Expect rocky bottom terrain with occasional sandy patches and a variety of reef-dwelling species. Entrances are straightforward, with entry typically from a calm, protected area when conditions permit. Conditions vary with wind and swell; divers should plan for moderate surge and be mindful of surface conditions. The nearby waters support common tropical reef life such as reef fish, wrasses, parrotfish, and spotted eels, with clearer water and good visibility under favorable conditions. This site is often used for drift dives along the shorebreak, offering a sense of motion with the current. Nearby access points include Kahaluu-Keauhou and Kailua, both within a short drive, and the broader Kona coastline, making logistics straightforward for local dive operators.
