Kota Kinabalu
Mamutik Island, Shore
Mamutik Island, Shore is a shallow coastal site near Kota Kinabalu in Sabah. The site is accessible from the mainland via short boat rides and offers calm conditions typical of a sheltered reef area. Expect a sandy to rubble bottom with patches of seagrass and small reef structures hosting a variety of tropical reef species. Common inhabitants include clownfish, damselfish, wrasse, gobies, and small nudibranchs, with occasional larger reef dwellers along the shallow outer edge. Depths are generally limited, making it suitable for introductory dives and quick refresher trips, though visibility and currents can vary with weather. The nearby city hubs — Kota Kinabalu, with a short boat hop to the site, and nearby Tanjung Aru — provide access and support from local dive centers.
