Mamas / T Reef, Madeira

Mamas / T-Reef is a shallow, coastal reef dive site off Madeira's southeast coast. It features a typically sandy bottom with patches of rocky outcrops and a healthy cover of encrusting corals and sponges. Entry is easy from a rocky shoreline or small beach, making it suitable for smooth-water dives and beginner to intermediate level. Depths commonly range from a few meters down to around 15–20 meters, with gentle to moderate currents depending on tides. Expect Mediterranean to subtropical species typical of the region—groupers, wrasses, damsels, morays, nudibranchs, and sometimes sea bream. The nearby seafloor structure provides small swim-throughs and sheltered crevices. Visibility is often good in clear conditions, especially on calm days. Nearby towns like Funchal and Caniço offer quick access to dive centers and shore facilities.
