Fleming Key

Fleming Key is a shallow, sandy to seagrass-covered site off Key West, accessible by short boat trips. The area is known for easy entries from the lee of Fleming Key and gentle currents, making it a suitable choice for drift-free shallow dives or training dives. Expect clear, warm water typical of the Florida Keys and visibility often ranging from several to many meters. The underwater landscape features sandy patches with patchy seagrass beds and occasional small reef formations along ledges. You may encounter local tropical species such as snapper, juvenile groupers, trunkfish, filefish, and rays in the sand and seagrass zones. This site is commonly used as a gentle introduction to Keys’ coastal habitats rather than a deep or structurally complex dive. Access from nearby hubs is convenient, with a short boat ride from Key West and easy connections to nearby Stock Island. Divers should plan for standard Keys weather and check local conditions for currents and surge, especially near channel exits.
