Cuban Freighter Reef is a coastal sight off South Florida, typically accessed from Key Biscayne or Miami. This site features a shallow to moderately deep wreck-like reef structure formed by the remains of a freighter and surrounding limestone ledges. Entry is from calm, sandy to rubble bottom, with moderate to good visibility common on calm days. The reef supports typical Western Atlantic marine life such as snappers, angelfish, parrotfish, grunts, and reef-associated invertebrates. Depths commonly range from the upper teens to the low-30s meters, depending on current and exact location, making it suitable for intermediate divers and training dives when conditions allow. Currents can be variable; always plan for a controlled ascent and awareness of surface conditions. The site lies near popular dive hubs like Key Biscayne and Miami Beach, with nearby centers offering guided dives and permits where required.
