Avaavaroa Drop Off

Avaavaroa Drop Off is a high-profile Atlantic reef edge dive site that features a dramatic vertical drop-off from shallow depths to deeper walls. Entry is typically by gentle ladder or easy beach/boat access depending on the day, with currents that can be stronger at depth. The topography includes a series of ridges and ledges that attract a variety of pelagic and reef species, with healthy coral formations along the slope. Typical visibility is good in settled conditions, and divers may encounter schooling fish, reef fish, and occasional larger species depending on season and current. The site is best suited to intermediate to experienced divers comfortable with drift and reef edge conditions. Access from the nearby towns of Takitumu, Rutaki and Muri makes it a popular choice for a day dive.
