Tanzania is a scuba destination centered on the warm, clear waters of the western Indian Ocean, with most diving focused around Zanzibar. On the island, areas such as Nungwi and Kendwa are known for easy beach entries, sandy bottoms, and reef diving suitable for a wide range of experience levels. Zanzibar North typically offers calmer conditions near shore and quick access to local reef sites, while further offshore conditions can vary with currents. In addition to Zanzibar, Tanzania’s Indian Ocean coastline and the Mozambique Channel can support drift diving and deeper profiles depending on the season and operator. Visibility is often good, and water temperatures are generally comfortable in much of the year, making the region practical for both day trips and guided trips from local dive centers. Outside the main coastal areas, diving relevance is more limited.
