Taiwan is an island dive destination in the Western Pacific, with scuba mainly done in saltwater along the east and south coasts, plus nearby offshore islands. On the east side, diving is often influenced by the Kuroshio Current, bringing relatively warm water compared with winter and strong, ocean-driven conditions where good buoyancy control and current skills help. Around Gongliao and the northeast coastline, sites are typically coastal-to-offshore and can vary from calmer stretches to more dynamic profiles depending on weather and swell. In the south, areas such as Hengchun and nearby coasts are common starting points for reef and drift-style dives, with seasonal changes in temperature and visibility. Lűdao (Orchid Island) is another key island region for divers looking for clearer open-water conditions and different marine life than the mainland coast. Overall, most diving is ocean-based; planning around currents, tides, and local site access is the main factor for a smooth trip.
