Sudan is a relatively under-dived option in Africa, but the Red Sea coast gives scuba divers a clear marine setting with warm water and mostly saltwater conditions. Most trips are based around Port Sudan and the wider Red Sea State, where the sea is the main focus: you can expect typical Red Sea coastal diving with reefs and drop-offs closer to shore, plus sites that are more exposed to wind and currents depending on the day. Outside the coast, diving opportunities are limited, so planning usually centers on reaching the Red Sea and arranging day boats with local operators. Visibility and water conditions can vary seasonally, so it’s worth checking current forecasts and asking centers what the latest conditions look like before booking.
