Réunion is a French overseas island in the Indian Ocean, known for dramatic volcanic coasts and year-round diving by ocean. Most scuba diving is shore-based or from small boats around the island’s perimeter, with mainly seawater (no inland freshwater diving as a common activity). Conditions are typically influenced by currents and local swell: visibility can be very good when seas are calm, but can drop during windy periods. Water temperatures are generally mild to warm depending on the season. Marine life is usually a mix of reef-associated species along rocky/coastal habitats, plus pelagic sightings when conditions line up.
