Madagascar is a strong Indian Ocean diving option, mainly centered on the north-west coast around Nosy-Be (Diana Region) and nearby islands. Most dives are in saltwater, with typical conditions influenced by the Mozambique Channel: warm tropical temperatures in much of the year, generally good visibility when seas are calm, and a mix of volcanic coastlines, sheltered bays, and deeper drop-offs a short boat ride away. Outside the main Nosy-Be base, access to the wider diving coastline is more limited and often requires local planning, but divers can still find a variety of island and coastal sites suited to different certification levels. Expect a “small-island” feel: fewer large, continuous reef systems than in some Red Sea destinations, with plenty of time on boats between sites and seasonal differences worth checking with local centers.
