🇮🇸 Iceland
Iceland is a cold-water scuba destination best known for clear, glacier-fed visibility and for diving in volcanic, geothermal landscapes. In freshwater, Silfra (in the Þingvellir area) is famous for unusually clear water inside the North American–Eurasian rift, while conditions there are typically cold enough that most divers use drysuits. In saltwater, dives around Reykjavík and the broader North Atlantic/Greenland Sea coast are generally cool, often with changing currents and water visibility that depends on wind and season. Expect drysuit diving year-round, short to moderate bottom times due to temperature, and careful buoyancy control in rocky volcanic areas. For most divers, Iceland is less about warm reefs and more about unique geology, dramatic underwater visibility, and a strong “conditions-first” diving culture.
