Belgium is a dive country where most underwater activity is concentrated around the North Sea coast and a smaller number of inland freshwater spots. Along the coast, diving is typically cold-water (mostly sea temperatures in the single digits to teens °C depending on season) and visibility can vary with tides, wind, and currents. Conditions around the Belgian coast also mean more emphasis on good buoyancy control and entry/exit planning, especially for deeper wreck-oriented dives. Inland diving is mostly freshwater river diving in and around places connected to the Maas and other waterways, where divers should expect lower visibility than at sea and plan for currents. Overall, Belgium is best suited to divers who enjoy cold-water environments, wreck diving, and local freshwater training dives rather than warm-water reef trips.
